Seven day service – The HCSA agrees with a system which minimises differences in outcomes for patients admitted at the weekend, and is keen to work with all partners to achieve this - seven day service, not seven day working. HCSA President John Schofield commented on the proposals:
“Seven day service must be achieved by properly planned change and adequately resourced developments in medical staffing, working patterns and clinical facilities. It must be ensured that the increase in ‘consultant presence’ as recommended by the Royal College of Physicians and others, which is intended to adequately treat acute emergencies, does not simply drift into undertaking additional routine clinics at weekends…” Read more about HCSA's stance on seven day service on our news page.
