HCSA’s team of experienced national officers have clocked up hundreds of miles since the new year to listen and brief hospital doctors across the UK on the consultant contract and other local concerns.
Dozens more visits are planned as part of an organising strategy that has seen a significant investment in a bigger HCSA full-time team in the field.
The meetings have taken place against a backdrop where details of the new consultant contract are impending but the mood is dominated by the government’s treatment of junior doctors, who now face having a new contract imposed.
National Officer Andrew Jordan, who joined the association at the start of the year and covers the East Midlands, East Yorkshire and East Anglia, said that the strength of feeling among members and non-members at meetings was clear.
“I am pleased to report that the majority of meetings in hospitals visited so far have led to a HCSA member volunteering to be the new workplace contact in their workplace,” he says.
Hospital Representatives will play an increasingly important role in months to come, acting as a bridge between officers and members locally.
“In what will be a fast developing situation, once the proposals are released, it is important that we have members and potential new members alike as up to speed with developments as is possible,” says Andrew.
“Similarly it is important that we get as much feedback as possible from members on how you feel about what is being proposed to enable us to accurately represent your views moving forwards.
“HCSA Hospital Representatives are crucial to this process.”
