Tell the GMC
The GMC have advised of a consultation process they are undertaking on the current GMC guidance on confidentiality. A review has begun and a working group overseeing the matter has issued a call for groups and individuals, whether professional, public
or patient orientated, to answer a set of questions
designed to clarify views about the existing guidance
and to identify where the biggest challenges lie for
Doctors in balancing respect for patients and

Your legal insurance: the facts
When doctors apply to the HCSA we provide details of what
are available as benefits of membership. One such benefit is
that all HCSA members are covered under a legal insurance
scheme which provides free legal services up to £25,000. It
may well be that members’ first consideration when faced
with the prospects of litigation is to turn to their household
insurance policy as this might also provide alternative cover
for their circumstances.

'New grade' threat
HCSA has become aware of Trusts
around the country beginning to
tackle the issue of the next intake of
junior doctors this coming August.
It is becoming evident that there will
be a shortfall in numbers that will
require alternative arrangements for
out-of-hours cover. Some Trusts
have proposed a solution by
creating new Consultant positions
that are resident out-of-hours
covering weekends and weekday evenings.
